From 'boys don't cry' to 'it's ok to cry sometimes' – society
perspective towards crying has come a long, long way. It is no longer
considered a taboo for the big boys as well. And yet, if there are people around, they will not let you cry peacefully. They will try to empathize or console, or tell you that crying will not do anyone any good. But is that right?
All those who have lived their lives – done much with it (whether
to society’s benefit or not), must surely have cried sometimes. There are times
in our lives when we are so tired of trying, that all the emotions held back,
burst forth in the form of uncontrollable tears. Tired of trying to win, trying
to be successful, trying to be someone or trying to reason with someone.
The trigger could be some major disaster, or those little things that keep
nagging at you for days together and suddenly one day it seems like just too
much to handle.
Even the soul falls silent at the time. There is a complete
blank. You don’t want anyone around, just to sit down and cry. To cry and
console yourself that you did your best. You tried. And that’s just it.
Wind down, cry away, let your tears give way to all the
tension beneath. Just be yourself for some time. It works for me, helps me to
remain as normal as life can let you be.
